When I went to a Twitch Meetup back in July of this year at Maui Coffee Attic, I didn't expect to meet a colleague in Lindsay (who is also partnered on Twitch and streams full time ! ) . She had recently moved to Maui and had been looking for someone to help with adventure photos - exploring the different towns, trying all the local treats, you name it - and that's when she contacted me.
Since then, we've shot a couple of times at the Maui County Fair and in Paia, but we thought we'd hit a little bit closer to home and shoot nearby where I live in Wailuku. The town was quiet and peaceful that Sunday evening, with plenty of murals to take pictures at. Local artists really helped to transform Wailuku into a thriving photo spot, much like Kaka'ako in Oahu!
To be honest, shooting at Golden Hour can be a little tricky for me (especially in Hawai'i where the sun is as powerful as can be) , but it really added another layer to the alleyway portraits we captured. I always tell plenty of jokes, so I was also able to get some really nice candids of Lindsay! I think my ability to make someone laugh with my stories can be a blessing and a curse (because I really love to talk story and tell jokes) - I'll take a really nice portrait of someone, and then get a few shots of them laughing 5 seconds later - but you know, I think that part of the experience is my favorite part.
My concept for this shoot was "Moody Golden Light Evening Walk in a Colorful Urban Jungle" , and Wailuku definitely provided.
